Hey there!

I'm so happy you found my happy little corner of the internet! It's pretty obvious that I love photography, but not many know the story of how it all started. I graduated from Portland State University with my degree in Graphic Design back in 2011. Right before I graduated, I also found out I was pregnant with my daughter! My husband and I were so excited but realized that the timing wasn't ideal. Shortly after getting my diploma, I started freaking out. The thought of leaving my new baby for 40 hours a week at a fancy design job sounded awful. It was pretty crazy how fast my dreams changed.

After my daughter was born all I could do was stare at her and take pictures of her. I couldn't believe I had made such a cute human. Of course I started posting those photos on social media to show her off to all my family and friends and then one day, I had a message in my inbox. It was a friend I had served tables with in the past that had seen the photos I took of my daughter and was wondering if I did family photography. My first instinct was to say, "Oh no, these are just for me." but something in me thought it would be kinda fun to try shooting a family.

I decided to give it a whirl and completely fell in love with capturing little moments in rays of sun. Shortly after that session there were other messages in my inbox asking me if I did engagements, weddings, senior portraits, births, etc. and my response was, "I never have but I'd love to!" That was the birth of SK photography. I always joke that photography really did choose me.

Part of the reason that I love my job is the connections I get to make with all my clients. I love when someone tells me "You are so good at your job!" and they haven't even seen a single photograph! To me, connection with my clients and bringing out their true selves is what it is all about. Almost anyone can take a "pretty" photo. I want my images to make you FEEL something. That way when you look back on the photos in the years to come, you will be taken to that exact moment and place in your life. My sessions are candid, fun, spontaneous, and uniquely you.

Features Overview

Feature 1

I was honored to be a guest teacher at the Brood and Tribe Pop up workshop earlier this month and it was so much fun to share some of my tips and tricks for photographing families. The workshop was put on by two amazing photographers Jana Foo and Jamie Jones who have been doing an amazing job of inspiring other photographers to take rad family images!

Feature 2

I call this shoot a creative love child.  I had this idea of models with huge flower headdresses bouncing around in my head for a few months but had zero idea how to execute it. I reached out to a local styled shoot group and Annie Chen of Floral Sunshine was excited to take on the challenge.

Feature 3

On a cloudy, then turned sunny day on June 21st 2018, I documented the love and marriage of Fnan and Micheal at Youngberg Winery in McMinnville Oregon. This day was an absolute favorite of mine and I am so excited to share it with you!
